Why One KC Express

Safety, purpose, and operational support

Student transportation is more than getting from one address to another. It requires patience, consistency, careful communication, and respect for each student’s needs. One KC Express works with drivers who take those responsibilities seriously.

Safety-first work

Follow trained procedures for student loading, securement, routes, emergencies, and communication.

Route-based assignments

Assignments depend on service area, student needs, eligibility, schedule, and available work.

Operations support

Use the approved Driver App and Dispatch workflow for trip details, updates, and questions while working.

The process

Your One KC Express driver journey

1

Apply

Complete the driver application with your contact information, experience, service area, and availability.

2

Talk with recruiting

Our team reviews your application and explains the role, service area, assignment type, and next documents or checks.

3

Complete applicable qualification steps

Depending on your role and assignment, this may include driving-record or background screening, vehicle and insurance review, client requirements, and required forms.

4

Complete safety and operations training

Training may cover child passenger safety, defensive driving, emergency response, accessibility equipment, the Driver App, Dispatch communication, and client-specific procedures.

5

Become route-ready

After the applicable steps are approved, operations can review available trips and provide the instructions needed for your assignment.

Qualification and safety

What One KC Express may ask you to complete

Not every driver completes every item. Recruiting will identify the requirements for your role, state, vehicle, school district, and client assignment before you spend time or money on a step.

Identity and driving review

Valid license, driving-history review, background screening, and other state or client checks when applicable.

Safety screening

Drug or alcohol testing and monitoring may apply to the assignment. One KC Express will give you the official instructions.

Vehicle readiness

Approved vehicle, registration, insurance, inspection, restraints, emergency equipment, or wheelchair securement when required.

Student-care training

Child passenger safety, behavior awareness, de-escalation, emergency response, and respectful communication.

App and Dispatch orientation

Trip details, route status, delays, substitute coverage, incident reporting, and approved communication channels.

Professional conduct

No driving under the influence, unsafe cell-phone use, discrimination, unsafe touching, or retaliation. Student dignity comes first.

Assignment tracks

Your onboarding may depend on the work you accept

One KC Express works with different school, district, and transportation programs. The cards below explain the kinds of additional preparation that may apply; they are not a promise that every assignment is available or that every requirement applies to every driver.

Standard student routes

Daily school transportation with approved routes, student handoff procedures, vehicle checks, Driver App updates, and Dispatch support.

Partner-program work

May involve students with special needs or individualized transportation. Additional background, drug, DMV, training, vehicle, app, state, district, or client requirements may apply.

Specialized student transportation

May include special-needs, McKinney-Vento, out-of-district, hard-to-serve, or wheelchair-accessible trips with behavior-awareness and special-equipment preparation.

Accessible transportation

Only approved and trained drivers may operate lifts, ramps, securements, restraints, or other accessibility equipment.

Student-specific support

Follow approved caregiver, district, and client instructions about a student’s needs, preferences, communication, and comfort items.

State and district rules

Age, vehicle, fingerprinting, registry, inspection, and training rules can vary. The applicable official instruction controls your assignment.

Before you apply

Be ready to tell us

  • Where you want to drive and how far you can travel
  • Your driving and student-care experience
  • Your general availability and preferred assignment type
  • Whether you have an approved vehicle or need a vehicle-based assignment
  • Any accessibility, monitor, or special-program experience
  • Whether you need an explanation of a screening, training, or document request

Keep sensitive documents secure

Do not place Social Security numbers, identity documents, medical information, or financial information in a public form or ordinary email. One KC Express will provide secure instructions for documents that are actually required.
